OUR TEAM
A Team of Arrhythmia Specialists
You'll have access to all the experts needed for your care, including cardiologists, heart surgeons, and other specialists with expertise in the care of people with irregular heartbeat.
Comprehensive Care for All Types of Arrhythmias
- Atrial fibrillation. We have exceptional experience treating atrial fibrillation, a type of arrhythmia in which the atria (the two small upper chambers of your heart) beat chaotically. Atrial fibrillation can lead to stroke, congestive heart failure, or cardiomyopathy.
- Ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation. We also have expertise treating people with ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation (when the ventricle of the heart contracts too rapidly or, in the case of fibrillation, irregularly).
- Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. In this condition, there is a very rapid heart rate called supraventricular tachycardia, caused by some of the heart's electrical signaling going down an extra pathway.
- Atrial flutter. We treat people with rapid but even electrical signals coming from the atria.
- Syncope. We offer treatment for fainting due to an arrhythmia.
An Accurate Diagnosis and Personalized Treatment
We use the latest electrophysiology tests, heart imaging techniques, and other exams to identify the cause and location of your arrhythmia with precision. This knowledge enables us to put together a customized plan of care designed just for you.
Nonsurgical Treatments
We may correct your arrhythmia using medication or catheter ablation, in which we interrupt the path of the abnormal electrical impulses in your heart, curing your arrhythmia.
Implanted Devices
NewYork-Presbyterian is home to one of the largest programs for the implantation of devices such as permanent pacemakers, biventricular pacemakers, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators for correcting irregular heartbeats. We have longstanding experience with the use of these devices. Experience treating high volumes of patients translates to better outcomes.
Corrective Surgery
If you have atrial fibrillation and other therapies are not working to control your arrhythmia, we may choose to treat you with surgery. Our heart surgeons have great success using open-heart and minimally invasive approaches such as the Maze procedure to interrupt the electrical impulses that cause an abnormal heart rhythm. Some people are able to have their surgery using a robotic approach, performed through small incisions with great accuracy.
