NYP Named by Working Mother as One of 2020s 100 Best Companies

NewYork-Presbyterian has been recognized by Working Mother magazine on three of its 2020 Best Companies Lists:
- 100 Best Companies—For the second year in a row, NewYork-Presbyterian has been honored for its programs and culture that support employees with balancing work and family.
- 2020 Best Companies for Multicultural Women—NewYork-Presbyterian has been recognized for best practices in hiring, retaining, and promoting multicultural women.
- Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index – NewYork-Presbyterian has been named to this important index for its best practices in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of people from underrepresented groups—women, racial/ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ people—as well as for its inclusive culture.

NewYork-Presbyterian has introduced family-friendly policies that enable employees to balance childrearing, work, and career advancement. The Hospital’s comprehensive fertility benefits cover infertility treatment without prior authorization, and eligible employees are entitled to up to $15,000 in reimbursement for adoption and surrogacy expenses. Eligible parents, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, also have access to 6-weeks of paid parental leave. The Hospital offers access to subsidized and affordable in-home or center-based back-up child and adult/elder care nationally, and as a new benefit this year, new parents who return to work are allotted extra back-up care days for the first year of their child’s life to help with the unexpected responsibilities that can arise during this time. In recent years, the Hospital has expanded and enhanced its onsite lactation rooms, providing new mothers with best-in-class amenities including hospital-grade breast pumps. Employees also have access to financial counseling, college advisement, licensed therapists, and well-being coaching.
In 2019, NewYork-Presbyterian developed a program for employee advancement called NYP ACHIEVE (Advancing Careers in Healthcare through Innovation, Education, Virtualization and Engagement) to provide resources for employees’ career advancement. In addition, as part of its Education Assistance benefit, the Hospital provides full-tuition grants for programs provided through select universities. This covers a variety of degrees at all levels and areas, including finance, business, criminal justice, healthcare, IT, and political science.
NewYork-Presbyterian has taken strong actions on racial justice and equity across its institutions and the communities it serves. The Hospital has created a new center to address longstanding health disparities due to race, socio-economic differences, limited access to care, and other complex factors that affect the well-being of our communities. The Hospital has also developed curriculums for NewYork-Presbyterian employees on understanding unconscious bias, and has provided resources to help employees start meaningful conversations about race and racism. Additionally, numerous NewYork-Presbyterian campuses have recently earned the “LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader” designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, which recognizes institutions that lead in adopting policies and practices in LGBTQ care.
The 2020 Working Mother 100 Best Companies list focused on inclusive benefits for families, including gender-neutral parental leave, gradual phase-back after parental leave and accessible, affordable childcare. The application includes more than 400 questions on leave policies, workforce representation, benefits, childcare, advancement programs, flexibility and more. It surveys the availability and usage of these programs, as well as the accountability of the many managers who oversee them.
