Pediatric Inpatient Unit

If your child needs to stay overnight in the hospital, it can be a scary time for your child, and for you as well. At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, we do all we can to make your experience here comfortable. We designed our Pediatric Inpatient Unit with children and families in mind. Every member of your child’s care team — physicians, pediatric nurses, social workers, child life specialists, and other staff members — has the compassion and expertise to make your experience with us as easy as possible. We work together to take care of your child's physical, emotional, and social needs.

A Team of Specialists

Everyone who works on the Pediatric Inpatient Unit shares a dedication to caring for children. They have made it their life’s work because they feel passionate about what they do. Your child’s care team includes pediatric hospitalists — physicians who work within the hospital to make sure your child receives all the care he or she needs. There is a pediatric hospitalist available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year long.

In addition, your child can receive care from any of the pediatric subspecialists in our hospital, such as doctors from pediatric cardiology (heart care), neurology (nervous system care), gastroenterology (digestive care), pulmonology (lung care), general surgery, urology (care of the urinary and reproductive tracts), and orthopedics (musculoskeletal care). Whatever treatment your child needs, the hospitalist can help arrange it.

We’re Here for Your Family

We understand how important it is to be by your child’s side during his or her stay. Each inpatient room has a comfortable sleeper chair to allow a caregiver to stay overnight. We provide daily meals for one caregiver so you do not have to leave your child’s bedside. Parents may visit their children at any time of the day or night.

Easing the Hospital Experience

To make your child’s experience in the hospital as pleasant as possible, we provide free television, iPads, and a playroom. Our warm, specially trained child life specialists interact with your child through activities and support him or her during certain clinical procedures. Their goal is to relieve anxiety and help your child adjust to the hospital setting. We also have pain management experts who help your child feel as comfortable as possible. To help ease your child's stay, we provide free television, iPads, and a playroom.

Pediatric Residency Program

As a teaching hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is committed to training the physicians of the future. Resident physicians training in Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine rotate through our unit as part of their training and may provide care to your child. If you are a medical student interested in this program, please visit the Weill Cornell Medicine website for more information.
