Investigators at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital are conducting clinical studies and laboratory research to uncover the causes of Alzheimer's disease and dementia and to discover ways to prevent and cure these disorders. Research at Columbia University Medical Center is underway at the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center and the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain, and at the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center – one of 28 specialized centers around the country sponsored by the National Institute on Aging.
Clinical trials performed at Columbia University Medical Center utilize the Irving Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Columbia Radiology facilities.
Significant areas of study include defining the genetic basis of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, determining risk factors, devising new imaging techniques for diagnosis and monitoring, and developing new treatments.
