The Most Advanced Breast Imaging & Biopsy Techniques

At NewYork-Presbyterian, we use the most accurate imaging tools to detect breast cancer, offering digital and 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). When imaging tests suggest that your breast tissue should be further analyzed for abnormal cells, , we offer stereotactic, ultrasound-guided, and MRI-guided biopsies on site. If you need additional surgery, we perform traditional image-guided needle-wire localization as well as the latest localizing techniques—including the SAVI SCOUT fiducial marker and iodine 125 radioactive seed placements—to pinpoint the lesion and guide your surgery.

National Accreditation

NewYork-Presbyterian’s breast imaging radiologists and interventional radiologists are exceptionally skilled at interpreting breast images and performing needle biopsies to evaluate suspicious lesions. Our Breast Imaging Centers earned the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Award from the American College of Radiology and are fully accredited to provide mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy, ultrasound-guided biopsy, and breast MRI according to the highest standards. 

Prompt Results 

We will let you know the findings of your breast screening immediately. If the results of your breast imaging exam are positive, indicating an abnormality, we will discuss additional testing options with you and provide assistance in scheduling your appointment.

Genetic Counseling & Testing 

Our breast care teams include genetic counselors who can meet with you if you have an increased risk for breast cancer due to a personal or family medical history. Our counselors can provide guidance about genetic testing and ways to reduce your risk. 

Who Should Be Screened? 

We recommend that women with an average risk for breast cancer start getting screened with annual mammograms at age 40 and women who are at high risk begin annual mammography screening before age 40. Diagnostic mammography is used to evaluate masses or other suspicious breast symptoms. Speak with your doctor to learn how often you should be screened and when screening should begin.
